The California Department of Water Resources have scheduled two funding workshops to be held on May 9th in downtown Fresno.
Beginning at 9:00am, a public meeting will be held to provide an overview of the expedited 2014 IRWM Drought Grant applications process and to solicit public comments on the draft Guidelines and Proposal Solicitation Package (PSP). The Governor and Legislature have directed DWR to expedite this solicitation and award $200 million (of a remaining $472.5 million) in Proposition 84 IRWM funding to support projects and programs that:
- Provide immediate regional drought preparedness
- Increase local water supply reliability and the delivery of safe drinking water
- Assist water suppliers and regions to implement conservation programs and measures that are not locally cost-effective
- Reduce water quality conflicts or ecosystem conflicts created by the drought

At 1:30pm, a second public meeting will be held to gather input for the development of the Water-Energy Grant Program as directed by Bill 103, Chapter 11 signed by the Governor on March 1, 2014. The bill appropriates $19M from the Greenhouse Gas Fund to the Department to develop this grant program. DWR intends to allow sufficient time to gather public input at the workshops for its consideration in drafting guidelines and a PSP. The draft Guidelines and PSP are anticipated to be released for public comment July 1, 2014.
