The Department of Water Resources (DWR) has announced the release of draft funding recommendations for the Proposition 1, 2015 Counties with Stressed Basins Grant Solicitation. DWR recommends funding Fresno County at its full request amount of $500,000 for improved groundwater monitoring efforts.
As part of the grant program, DWR identified Fresno County as overlying one of California’s 21 critically over-drafted basins. In a collaborative effort, Fresno County, Kings River Conservation District (KRCD) and Westlands Water District (WWD) submitted a successful grant proposal to compete for the funding and requested the maximum award amount of $500,000. The proposed project involves strengthening and expanding upon a groundwater monitoring network between the Kings and Westside subbasins, including new monitoring well installation, to provide better boundary/inter-basin data for use in each subbasin’s implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act of 2014 (SGMA).
